Scale Model

Tarri Driver August 10, 2014

Scale Model creates music that makes my soul so happy. The positive messages in the music are authentic, down to earth, and leave me feeling inspired, energized and motivated. Megan is the spirited front woman of this pop band. Not only is Meg an amazing musician and songwriter, but she is a talented speaker, life coach and reiki healer. And--she plays the keytar—seriously, how tremendously rad. Meg gave me a tour of Scale Model's practice space. Check out the pictures and interview that follows!

The music of Scale Model is incredibly positive and inspiring. So many of the lines are like mantras for me. I seriously wake up with them in my head! For example, “Don’t you sacrifice your dreams because you need to feed your ego and not your soul. Don’t wait another night, do it tonight—your heart is calling for you” I love that. What are some of the ideas and inspirations behind your music?

Yay! So happy to hear you say that! I feel such a passion to share with people positive and/or inspiring and/or metaphysical ideas that have helped me so much in my path to spiritual "enlightenment" of sorts over the last 6-7 yrs., and it has been such a focus of my life since I've moved to Nashville that I can't help but think of these types of messages when I'm trying to come up with new song ideas. I like to think of it as an extension of my life coaching & future career in motivational speaking.

You’ve been on quite a creative journey! I remember when we first met about 5 years ago at Springwater, and you and Dave had just moved to Nashville from Chicago. Share a little bit about your life journey and what brought you to where you are now.

I had reached an all-time low in my life in Chicago and was broke and majorly depressed. After the death of both of my grandmas within a 3-month time span, I sought free counseling from a spiritual advisor (a Jesuit priest student at Loyola University). I was not a religious person at all but figured the typical mental health practitioners and pharmaceutical depression drugs had not worked for me for many years so I was open to try another approach. This was the start of my awakening to my spirit and has been the only thing that has helped me become a happy, successful person.

We moved to Nashville after my grant-funded job ended and we could no longer afford our mortgage on our tiny condo. We came here with no jobs lined up, just living off my unemployment $. We had been learning a lot about the law of attraction so we figured this would be the ultimate test to see if it actually worked. Because it took me over a year to find a job, i had nothing better to do than study the law of attraction, spiritual enlightenment and metaphysics. I was thrust into a deep spiritual journey with the help of several of my favorite authors and speakers. I went to conferences, meetings, and meditation trainings and had some major breakthroughs. I unearthed and released some major junk that had been blocking me from being one with my spirit. I had been living so much in ego for so long, I couldn't see the sky through the trees. I found a new way of living and at the same time, my calling in life (besides music, which I've loved since I was 3). I wanted others to learn this way of living because it transformed my mental, physical and spiritual self and I knew I had to help others "awaken".

I've been on this path ever since and doors have been opening for me like no other time in my life.

What is your favorite space/environment like?

I'm sensitive to energy, so it has to be a place with positive energy. I also love nature. I write my best songs when I'm out in nature or at the ocean.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

Deborah King's "Be Your Own Shaman."

Your go to musical selection?

Sirius radio, channel-XMU.

Any beauty secrets? You always have amazing skin!

Really?! Well thanks. Meditation 20 min. Every day! High-quality, deep Meditation has been proven to make people look younger if done every day for years.

Besides having good genes I'm very particular about what I eat and put on my body- all organic & healthy (no chemicals, parabens, etc). I saw a really good health coach here last month who shared the optimal diet and it includes much more healthy fats than most people probably eat (nuts or sunflower seeds or avocado every day). I've noticed that has made the biggest difference.

Do you have any mottos or mantras?

The ones I've needed this past year are: go with the flow, (this is a hard one!;) and Don't be afraid to set boundaries. You can't be everything to everyone all the time.

Mermaid or Forest Fairy?

Ha, interesting choices. Mermaid. I was told I was a mermaid in a past life during the time of Atlantis.
